Reid Grainger, 43 of Chicago IL passed away peacefully on December 1 after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in South Bend IN to Jim and Linda Grainger, who survive him.

Reid graduated from St Joseph High School and went on to Vanderbilt University graduating with degrees in both chemical engineering and economics. He moved to Chicago after being given an opportunity to learn how to become an options trader. It was there that he met his wife, Chrissy, who was instantly drawn to his huge smile and love of life. It was, however, his work ethic, commitment to integrity and his ability to see the good in everyone that she fell in love with. The two were married in 2006 and enjoyed 15 years of laughter, love, and friendship.

Reid loved a good game of poker, the challenge of mastering the Big Green Egg, and an afternoon on the beach of lake Michigan where he would play fetch with Finn or paddleboard till the sun set. He loved all sports, especially golf. Many of his most fond memories include playing top ranked courses with amazing friends and a lot of shenanigans between rounds.

Reid's greatest source of pride and joy were his children Nolan, Abigail, and Claire. Always their biggest cheerleader, he could often be found coaching their sports teams, teaching them math the "correct" way and using his extensive science knowledge to explain to them why things occurred in nature the way they did. Reid's integrity and enormous love of life lives on in each of them.

He is also survived by brothers Gates (Allyson) and Brooks (Elizabeth), mother-in-law, Mary Winkler, brothers-in-law Brian (Sarah), Mark, Matt (Stacy) and "niblings" Cameron, Will, Gil, Charlotte, Luke, Norah, and Jordan.

Wake to be held 4pm-6pm (CST) Friday December 10 at St Clement Church (642 W. Deming St 60614)

Funeral mass 10 am (CST) on Saturday December 11 at St. Clement Church
