Paz "Ima","Inda Pacing", "Nanay Barin", passed away peacefully in her home in Chicago, IL on Sunday evening of August 20. It was one week after she turned 99 years old. At that moment, she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends.
Born in 1918 to Dalmacio and Alejandra Alvarez Matias in Lubao, Pampanga, Philippines. It is where she grew up, went to school and met Federico Maris Barin. They married in 1940, had six children: Arturo (Cecilia Nalus), Jesus (Lucita Dabu), Aida (Venancio Hernandez), Grace (Romulo Caylao), Federico Jr. (Carmelita Flores), and Agnes (Anthony Valero d.), had 15 grandchildren: Arturo Jr., Teresa Paz, Jesus Henry Allan, Jonathan, Joseph, Ronald, Roland, Regina, Rowena, Ron, Rachel, Jennifer, Christine, Napoleone Carlo, and Angelo Gabriel, and had 15 great grandchildren: Chase, Austin, Avery, Evan, Emma, Keira, Cillian, Sequoia (d.), Talon, Mason, Luciana, Devyn Rose, Haley, Quintin, and Amelie.
In 1976, the family moved and settled in Chicago where their children worked and raised their families. Paz and Federico celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries. In 2000, Federico lost his life to a car accident at the age of 82. From then on, Paz lived her life surrounded by the huge family she and Federico built together until she passed away at the age of 99. She was a baptized member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation, devoting her life to church activities with fellow members.
Paz is known for her artistry in the kitchen. Her dishes and pastries are sought after. Families and friends do not leave her house hungry and empty handed.
Arrangements are being handled by Grein Funeral Directors, 2114 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL. Viewing is scheduled on August 27, Sunday, 3:00 – 8:00 PM. Interment will be held on August 28, Monday, meet at Grein Funeral Directors at 9:00 AM, then proceed to Rosehill Cemetery, where Paz will be laid to rest on a plot she will share with Federico.
Families and friends are invited to a reception following interment at Via Venetto, 6340 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL.
