Michael Donald Randolph, beloved husband of Lawrence J. Bak and father of pittie, Ash, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2017. Michael was born June 3, 1969 to Donald and Cathleen Randolph (nee Gibbons), and grew up in Addison, graduating from Addison Trail High School. He was a state diver and gymnast, reveling in floor exercise. He attended one year at the Air Force Academy on athletic scholarship and left the Air Force to complete college in Florida. He later became a mortgage underwriter, was well-known for his fastidious attention to detail, and revered for his dedication to his work.
The profound love between him and husband, Larry, created a vastly deep--and equally wide--circle of friends, arms that welcomed and cared for rescue dogs Elliot and later Ash, infinite acts and words of kindness, and deep conversations long into the night. Michael's ear was available and his heart open to all who needed a reminder of the definition of kindness or a shoulder to lean on: innately he knew exactly the right thing to say and was a tender soul. He was a generous friend who delighted in making those around him feel treasured.Michael loved flowers and nurtured all things green, coaxing spectacular blooms from orchids and azaleas. He treasured a series of sports cars, and appreciated beautiful art, refined wine, dark coffee, soft sweaters, warm sand, and all foods devoid of tomatoes, especially Larry's cooking. He is survived by his husband of 21 years, Larry, parents Cathleen and Donald, sister Patricia Ryban (Bill), nephews and nieces William, Victoria, Matthew, and Zachary, second mother Marian Bak, second sister Laura Bak-Mahlkuch (Vern), and furry son Ash. Visitation Sunday, March 5th, 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at Grein Funeral Directors, 2114 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago. Following services cremation will be private. 773-588-6336
