Obituary

Loretta (Lorry) K. Prybell, 81, of Chicago, IL passed away December 7, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.  She was born to the late Joseph and Katherine Vitale on June 12, 1939, in Chicago. Lorry graduated as the valedictorian of Waller High School (now known as Lincoln Park High School) in Chicago in 1957.

Lorry married the late Robert (Bob) Prybell in 1959.  Lorry is survived by two sons: Joseph (Jerilyn) Prybell, Mundelein, IL and Daniel Prybell, Walworth, WI.  She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great grandchild: Rebecca (Jeff) Simon and Emily Simon, Alexander (Nicola) Prybell, Victoria (Kyle Sess) Prybell, and Ethan Kofman. Lorry was preceded in death by her sister Joanne (David) Bailey and survived by her niece Katherine Vance.

Lorry lived a full, happy life, and was deeply loved by her family and friends.  She spent the last 57 years as the matriarch of her block of Bell Avenue.  When she was not on Bell Avenue, she enjoyed regular visits to northern Wisconsin for fishing and time with her family. Not one to quickly adopt technology, she still received her cancelled checks back from her bank, though she did have a flip cell phone in case her grandchildren called when she was not home.  She enjoyed having her whole family over for regular family dinners usually cooked by Pete's Pizza. When her grandchildren were young, they always asked why Grandma Lorry drank "ice water" before dinner.  They now know those were vodka gimlets.

She was an avid Chicago sports fan and knew Cubs facts almost as well as her son Danny. They regularly discussed their displeasure at Chicago sports teams. Lorry ran the family football picks league for many years, calling each member to record their picks every week. She also enjoyed trips to play slots with her friends and shopping trips with her grandchildren.

Lorry spoke with her sons and grandchildren daily and always knew the family news first. She would regularly begin a phone conversation by saying "nothing to report, no news of the day", and then proceed to tell you about 10 things she had on her mind.

She will be missed everyday by all who knew her.

All services and interment will be private at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles, IL.  A celebration of Lorry's life will be held in 2021.  In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Inspiration Ministries, Walworth, WI https://www.inspirationministries.org/ or Shady Oaks Camp, Homer Glen, IL https://shadyoakscamp.org/
