Kathleen H
Pietschmann
May 20, 2022
Kathleen Pietschmann was a dedicated healthcare professional, a Nurse Practitioner whose sole mission in life was to help others. Born on January 4, 1950 , to the late James P. Pietschmann and Louise Pietschmann and went to be with God on May 20, 2022 .
Kathleen attended Mayfair College of Nursing in 1974 and later went on to receive both a Bachelors and later a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois by 1984. During the early to Mid 1990s, Kathy became a Nurse Practitioner graduating from Rush University as a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) specializing in Geriatrics. Throughout her career, Kathy has been recognized and has received numerous awards for her career achievements, service, and dedication to nursing and caring for patients.
Kathleen worked at St Mary's School of Nursing and at both Lake Side and Jesse Brown VA Hospitals over her 40+ year career. In addition, she consulted for the Washington Square Health Foundation and lobbied for critical medical equipment, programs and services. Most of her career was spent caring for persons with HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases. She was a vocal and strong advocate of patient rights. Her gift was to make each of her patients feel special, feel cared for and most important feel loved. Kathy stood up for the LGBTQ, seniors, and people living with HIV/AIDS, especially at a time when No One would. She provided patients her personal phone number so she could help them on the weekends and during off-hours. She was always asking how she could do more for others.
Kathy was a loving and devoted mother to Cassaundra. She was her only child and the love of her life. Her daughter meant the world to her. She could always be counted on to be there for her.
Kathy was also the rock that helped her family. She and her sister cared for their aging father during his last years. She, her sister, and her daughter took care of their aging mother (grandmother) while their mother was suffering from Alzheimer's and Kathy also helped her sisters & other extended family with their healthcare issues throughout the years. In short, for anyone that needed aid….she was there front and center asking how she could help.
Kathy was truly a gift from God!
