Obituary

Janet Bachta DeFiglio, teacher, wife, mother and friend to many, died peacefully Aug. 19. Born to immigrant parents from Poland, Louis and Helen, Janet was the youngest of six and the only girl. Her parents had a shoe store near Chicago Avenue and Ashland, Chicago, and she grew up in the Polish neighborhood there. Attaining a degree in education, Janet joined the Chicago Public Schools and spent decades teaching kindergarteners and first graders to read. She married a fellow teacher, the late Sam, and they had two children, moved to Edgebrook and were blessed with decades of a loving, happy marriage. Janet was devoted to her Catholic faith and enjoyed travel, theater, reading newspapers and visiting with friends. A cherished mother, grandmother and aunt, she leaves behind Pam, Perry, grandchildren Milo and Mark and many dear nieces and nephews. Wake 10:30 a.m., funeral Mass 11:30 amFriday, Aug. 27 at St. Mary of the Woods Church, 7033 N. Moselle, Chicago. Arrangement by Grein Funeral Directors-Frank Maniscalco - Director.
