James A
Zakrzewski
March 12, 2024
With loved ones near him, James Zakrzewski, 88, passed away March 12, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. Born in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, he moved to Chicago's southside, where, at 18, he began his career as a cargo handler for American Airlines at Midway Airport, later concluding his career at O'Hare Airport. Through many family gatherings, he eventually met the love of his life and to whom he became devoted, Elizabeth (Betty) Genevieve (nee Knoll). They married, moved to the northside of the City where they were blessed with a daughter, Cynthia Louise. With Betty, he saw their family grow to include two grandchildren and many wonderful memories. After 45 loving years of marriage, Betty suddenly passed away, leaving a hole in his life. Not long after, a long-time friend, Alice Odeh, became part of Jim's life, along with her children she had with her late husband, Emil: Shereen (Aaron) Combs Aguilar, Sammy (Kris) Odeh, and Ranya (Doug) Dietzen. They married, and with open arms, he was welcomed into their lives and family. He cherished Alice's children and grandchildren as if they were his own.
His passions were his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his friends, fishing, watching sports, particularly basketball and football. He was recognized for his 42 years of service as a cargo handler for American Airlines.
He is survived by his loving brother, Francis, and sister, Rita; cherished father to his daughter Cynthia (Michael) Teolis; dear grandfather to Giovanna (Joseph) Anayas and Adrianna (Eli) Estrada; and great-grandfather to Isla, Shay, and Eve; and uncle and cousin to many.
