Obituary

Christine M. Burkhardt, honored the world with her birth on July 12, 1947. She was an exemplary woman and was deeply loved by everyone who knew her. Christine volunteered her time for 30+ years at St. Joseph Hospital, in Chicago AND in McHenry at Northwestern Hospital. She was also a Eucharistic Minister at both St. Benedict Church, in Chicago and St. Patrick Church, in McHenry, Illinois. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend to all. Christine gave of herself, to her family, her friends, and total strangers alike. Constantly, sacrificing everything to drive someone to the hospital, offer a warm bed or meal, help out her kids when times got tough, or make her husband, Richard, take his medicine, even if he didn’t want to, or just to sit and listen if you needed that special ear.

She loved life. Always finding a reason to dance in the kitchen, sing a random song she had just made up, or throw on an Elvis tune, while still making sure to steal away a romantic moment with her husband. She also spent her time building puzzles or doing a crossword while snacking on strawberries and Milky Way candy bars. For the past 7 years, she bravely fought the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease (and her caregivers). She went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2026 and is preceded in death by her husband Richard Burkhardt, her parents, Richard and Dolores Lynch, and her grandparents Nicholas and Marie Reising.

Christine’s life was a gift to us all and she will be missed more than words can ever convey.

She is survived by her children Kenneth Burkhardt, Gregory Burkhardt (Marie), Thomas Burkhardt (Jamie) and Carolyn Topps; nee. Burkhardt (Stella), her grandchildren, Logan, Lucas, Samantha, Brenden, Evelyn, Melanie, Gianna, and Marion, and her sister Pat (Bob), and brothers Larry (Margaret), and Phillip (Theresa).
